Ian is 20 Months Old

// May 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // General

Our little man is 20 months old and as much a handful as ever. He’s taken to using our bar height kitchen chairs to climb onto the table, and tries for the counters as well, but we catch him just in time for that one. There isn’t much he doesn’t try to climb these days.

Ian is an instigator, who can be counted on to stir things up if the house gets too quiet. Of course target number one is Ally, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get her to play with him, which has a 50/50 chance of turning into a fight instead depending on the tactics he uses.

He plays on my computer regularly and his favorite program is iTunes, as he likes to shuffle through the songs until he finds one he wants to dance to and then starts all over again. His favorite character is Mickey Mouse and he sleeps with two of them at night. He’s added many new words and phrases to his vocabulary, and as I’ve written before, says Ally and Daddy the most, only saying mommy when he’s hurt.

The poor thing has inherited Eric’s seasonal allergies, making his eyes red and puffy and his eczema flare up all over his face. He’s been miserable, but Benadryl seems help and we’re hoping his new eczema meds will make a difference too.

I’m the first to admit Ian has crazy hair and since he may have enough now for them to do something with, I’ve decided it’s time for his first haircut at a place where the kids sit in a racecar, Jeep or other cool vehicle (I’m hoping it will make him more cooperative). I trim Ally’s bangs, but boy hair confounds me, so I’m leaving it to trained experts!

A few weeks ago my parents commented I don’t call as often as I used to. It’s true and I explained my kids don’t stop moving and our life runs at warp speed 95% of the time and breaks are rare. They thought I was exaggerating until they came to help out while Eric was away. My parents left my home exhausted, saying politely that my kids are energetic and they don’t know how Eric and I do it all, considering we both work outside the home full time as well. I was grateful for their help and know they love us dearly considering they are coming back next weekend.

In other news, we finally traded in our Passat, which I was sad to say good bye to since it kept me safe when I hit a deer and was rear-ended by a tractor trailer. Because of those experiences, I knew I wanted another VW and we got the new CC. The car is awesome and I love it. Now, as Eric puts it, I have two cars and he borrows one to take the kids to school, since he now has a new motorcycle, a Honda 600 RR.

Lastly, Eric and I decided we’re done having kids, so I’m having a yard sale this weekend. I’ve spent most of my evenings sorting through the kids’ stuff, crying and laughing at the memories each item invokes. Time truly does pass too quickly.
